The "Specializing Master" is a scientific perfection qualification that you can acquire if you have a three year degree (I level specializing master) or a five year degree (II level specializing master). The Master in Public Management degree requires one year of full-time study. The course begins in January. To graduate, the MPM candidate is required to pass five modules at NUS, and four electives at the John F Kennedy School of Government (KSG) at Harvard University. In addition, he or she is expected to successfully complete an attachment programme, and present a paper upon the completion of his or her attachment at the Public Management Seminar Series.

The Executive Committee for Graduate Studies may require a candidate to withdraw from the course of study for the degree of Master in Public Management if, in the Committee’s opinion, the candidate’s progress has not reached a satisfactory level of proficiency.

To graduate with the MPM, a candidate must have obtained an average of B- (minimum Cumulative Average Point of 3.0) at the end of the course of study. In the case of a candidate who has completed more than the stipulated number of modules required, the calculation of the average will be based on all the modules sat for. A candidate who fails a core module must retake and pass an examination in that core module in a subsequent semester. A candidate who fails an elective module may, subject to approval of the School, retake the module or choose an alternative module and pass the examination in the module in a subsequent semester. A candidate who fails a module in a second attempt or fails more than two modules throughout the course of study will be required to terminate his/her candidature.

Criteria for Selection
Among the criteria used to guide the selection process are:

Leadership capabilities demonstrated through professional accomplishment
Personal character, demonstrated by professional commitment and direction, motivation and maturity
Scholastic ability as demonstrated by achievement in an earned undergraduate and/or graduate degree, recommendations, analytic training, written work and standardised test scores

Applicants are also evaluated on the depth and quality of their experience, as demonstrated by work history, references and the applicant’s written analysis of past employment experience.

An MPM candidate should be motivated, outward-looking, and open to new ideas. He should be ready to contribute a unique perspective and experience to the programme to benefit other students, and be ready to contribute to his organisation and country at the end of his training. In effect, the candidate we are looking for should be important enough to the organisation that a sabbatical year away would have significant impact for the organisation, but whose added training will be seen as vital in the organisation’s next step forward.

In addition, the candidate should meet most of the following criteria:

Be in an organisational position at least comparable to a Director of Division and up to a Deputy Secretary level in the Singapore Civil Service
Have demonstrated clear leadership potential within a country civil service or political leadership, or in comparable positions in non-profit organisations or in the private sector
Likely to be between 35 to 45 years old
Have a minimum of eight years working experience preferably in the area of policy making and public management
Possess at least a good tertiary education up to Bachelor level
Preferably have some background in Mathematics and Economics
Have a good command of the English Language (minimum TOEFL score of 580 or IELTS band of 6.5)
Show a genuine interest in governance, and be able or likely to fill a future position in government
Be of good personal character

Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship / School of Public Policy Graduate Fellowship

The Scholarships / Fellowships below are offered on a competitive basis to recognise outstanding MPM candidates who have clearly demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and are committed to public service. A Scholarship/Fellowship fully finances the candidate’s education in the Master in Public Management programme.

Due to the prestige of the Scholarship / Fellowship, not all awards will be made unless there are candidates of sufficient merit. In addition to meeting the stringent criteria for entry into the MPM programme, all Fellows/Scholars should also demonstrate exceptional academic ability and professional distinction.

Fellows / Scholars may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship or award without the prior approval of the School.

There is no bond or obligation for the Fellow/Scholar to be employed by NUS or in Singapore.

Each Fellowship provides for the following expenses:

A monthly stipend throughout the period of the award
A one-time book allowance
A one-time settling-in allowance

Buying behaviour, customer engagement and CRM are strong interests for the Marketing Department at Oxford Brookes. Consumer satisfaction, relationship management, symbolic consumption, cross-cultural behaviours and gift giving behaviour, are just some aspects of current research activity. A significant emerging focus in the Department is that of consumer fairness and trust, linked to the growing capture and (mis)use of customer data. There is also much interest in C2C communication, reflecting changing social behaviours. We encourage applications into these areas of buying behaviour and customer interaction. Call for Grants to study on a University Master’s Degree Programme at the Rovira i Virgili University

1. Conditions of the call
The Rovira i Virgili University is announcing a competitive call for grants to study on a university master’s degree programme during the academic year 2011–2012. These grants are aimed at new international students.

1.1 Aim
The present call aims to facilitate and increase the participation of new international students who fulfil the entry requirements of the URV university master’s degrees.

In the present call 2011-2012, all the university master’s degrees will have at least one student awarded with a grant. Those interuniversity master’s degrees whose registration procedure is not organized by the URV are expressly excluded.

The number of grants awarded can be increased by means of any extra resources proposed by the organs responsible for organizing the master’s degree, as long as they use the specific application form.

1.2. Characteristics of the grant
The grants consist of the whole amount of the registration of the first academic year (60 ECTS credits, including registered and recognized, fees and insurance) and a study bursary of 4.000€.

In the case of on-line masters degrees, the grant only will consist of the whole amount of the registration fees of the first academic year. In the case of masters’ degrees of 120 ECTS credits, if 60 ECTS credits of the first year are recognized due to previous formation, the grant will involve the whole amount of the second year registration (60 ECTS credits). The student should pay the fees of recognition of the first year.

The Postgraduate and Doctoral School will be responsible for transferring the study bursary to the beneficiary student, by means of the Economic Resources Service. In addition, it will be responsible for paying the registration and tuition fees to the Academic Management Service, and for paying the insurance premium’to the insurance company.

The students will receive the amount of 4.000€ in three payments:

First payment: As soon as the students will enrol the university, they will be paid an advance sum of 600€ so that they can cover the first expenses they may have. To receive this advance sum, however, they must have completed the registration procedure.
Second payment: During the two following months after registration to the master, the sum of 2.000€ will be transferred directly into the current accounts of the beneficiaries.
Third payment: During the last week of February 2012, the beneficiaries will be paid the outstanding sum of 1.400€.

Under no circumstances will the registration or tuition fees be transferred to the students. The Postgraduate and Doctoral School will transfer this amount directly to the Academic Management Service.

Likewise, the Postgraduate and Doctoral School will also pay the insurance premium for these students, which will cover the costs of health care, accidents and repatriation during the period they are beneficiaries of the grant.

1.3. Requirements
a) General

Students must not be the beneficiaries of other incompatible grants or bursaries (see section 1.9 of the present call). Should they be awarded another grant or bursary of the same characteristics, they will have to explicitly renounce one of them and return the amount they have already received.

b) Specific

Beneficiaries must be registered for at least 60 ECTS credits of a URV university master’s degree. This figure includes the number of recognized credits.
Beneficiaries must have been favourably evaluated by the specially appointed Committee and their coefficient must be within the total number of grants to be awarded.
International students must not have Spanish residence.
Those beneficiaries who are registered in master’s degrees with a virtual component must spend at least two months in the URV.

1.4. Documents that must be presented with the application:

Signed application form addressed to the rector of the university (see attached form)
Declaration that the beneficiary does not reside in Spain
Academic transcript with the average grade of the previous academic year.
The Postgraduate and Doctoral School can ask students for any other documents that may be required to appraise their application during the selection process.

1.5. Presentation of applications

1.6 Selection procedure
After the deadline for presenting the applications, students will have a period of five days to amend any possible lack of documentation and, after this period, the final list of admitted and excluded applications will be published on the website at the following address: Official Website.

The applications will be appraised by a Selection Committee consisting of three members from the knowledge area of the master’s degree. The committee will be chaired by the coordinator of each master’s degree. This committee will raise the proposal of grant awards to the Vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning and indicate the order of priority, so that all grants can be awarded should there be any withdrawals. Applications will be appraised using the following criteria:

Academic transcript (maximum 5 points).
Curriculum Vitae (previous training, languages, temporary stays in other countries, mobility, professional experience) (maximum 3 points).
Undergraduate studies in another university (maximum 2 points).

To guarantee efficiency, the Selection Committee of each master’s degree must meet between 10–20 May 2011.

On the basis of the proposals made by the various Selection Committees, the Vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning shall convene the Standing Recruitment Committee, which will make the definitive award of the grants and indicate the order of priority. This Committee will consist of five members, representing five different scientific areas.

In the event that some awards are not assigned, the Standing Recruitment Committee can redistribute them among the other master’s degrees, with the exception of those that are funded by the organs responsible for university master’s degrees. In this case, the vacancies will be redistributed under decision of the organ responsible for the master degree.

1.7 Resolution of the call
Once the process has been completed, the Vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning will publish the definitive list of grants awarded. This list will be available at the following website:

A waiting list will also be published, consisting of those students who will only be awarded a grant if a beneficiary decides not to accept the award or is excluded for any other reason established in the present call.

Should you wish to do so, you can appeal to the rector of the URV within one month of having been informed of the decision, or make any other appeal that you believe to be in your interests

1.8 Payment of the grant
In order to be able to receive payment of the grant, beneficiaries must provide the Postgraduate and Doctoral School with the following documents:

Photocopy of the application for the NIE (tax identification number for foreigners)
Personal and bank details (copy of the bank account)

1.9 Incompatibilities

The beneficiaries of the grants described in this call cannot be the recipients of any other bursary or grant with the same characteristics or purpose, with the exception of the AGAUR or Spanish Ministry’s mobility grants, which are regarded as being a complement to a study programme designed exclusively to encourage mobility.
If students have been awarded any other bursary or grant of a similar kind, they must renounce their right to the award in writing and return the totality of the sum awarded.
Those students who have pre-registered for or been admitted on interuniversity master’s degrees, the registration procedure of which is not organized by the URV, are excluded from this call for grants.

1.10 Renewal for master’s degrees of 120 ECTS credits
Those students awarded with a grant of a university master by means of URV resources who have registered to the first academic year of a master’s degree of 120 ECTS credits (2 academic years), can renew the grant during the academic year 2012-2013, provided that they fulfil the following requirements:

Having passed the first academic year with an average grade of 2
Having registered all the credits required so that they can finish the master’s degree.

In any case, students should apply for the renewal of the grant.

In the case of grants with own master’s degree resources, the renewal call will be under decision of the organ responsible for the master degree.

The School offers its own Studentships for research (doctoral) degree study (MPhil/PhD). In 2011-12 we expect to offer up to two research (doctoral) degree Studentships, for commencing October 2011.

Value and eligibility criteria
School Doctoral Studentships cover fees and maintenance allowance at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. Studentships can be awarded to Home/EU or Overseas students and can be for full-time or part-time study. Only those students beginning their first year of study in 2011/12 are eligible.

Amount of award
The School Studentships are funded at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. In addition to fees, the rates for maintenance in 2010-11 are given below as a guide:

Research students: £15,590 full-time and £9,355 part-time
* It is not at present clear whether this will increase or remain the same for 2011-12.

Students assessed for fees at the Overseas rate will be required to pay the difference between the Overseas and Home/EU fee.

Application process
Only if you have been offered a place by the Institute in which you wish to study, and you have accepted it, are you eligible to submit an application for funding.

Eligible students can apply both for AHRC and School doctoral studentships using the combined application form. Students applying to all funding strands need only complete one form.

Deadlines

Decisions
Institutes will forward applications recommended for an award to a committee chaired by the Dean of the School. The primary criterion will be academic excellence. The decision of the School will be final.

Awards will be announced in late May or June 2011. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by the School Registry. Applicants who are on the reserve list will be advised of this and will be informed as soon as possible if funds become available and an award is to be offered. It may be that such notification cannot be made until close to the start of the academic term.

2011 Indonesian Arts And Culture Scholarship Programme

The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship
25 April – 29 July 2011

A. BACKGROUND
The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship has been conducted since 2003 and was initially offered to and participated by member countries of the South West Pacific Dialogue (SwPD); Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and the host Indonesia.

Bearing in mind the significance and advantages obtained from the program, the offer was expanded over the years to include member countries of ASEAN, ASEAN+3, and PIF, as well as India and South Africa. In 2008, Indonesia welcomed the participation of Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Since 2009, Austria has joined the program and in 2010 the Government of Indonesia has given the opportunity for participants from France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and Suriname. This year, Indonesia will invite participant from Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Turkey to join the program.

Due to the limited space and the vast amount of interest in the program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with Indonesian embassies and consulates overseas, hold a series of selection process. Taken into considerations are, among others, the participants’ background, gender and regional representation.

In order to deepen the participants’ understanding of Indonesian arts and culture, and to enhance their skills for the final performance, participants will be divided and assigned by the organising committee to different arts centers for the duration of approximately two and a half month. The arts centers are located in Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Bandar Lampung, Lampung.

Participants will live within or around the arts centers, allowing for the chance to experience the local heritage and interact with the local community. Synergy between theory and practices shared inside and outside the art centers would undoubtedly become the driving force for shaping international cultures and norms, and will eventually strengthen regional as well as global understanding and cooperation at a people-to-people level.

B. OBJECTIVE
The program serves to demonstrate Indonesia’s commitment in advancing the social culture cooperation of various countries in the world. The program also has an objective to encourage better understanding amongst participants Indonesia’s immensely diverse art and cultural heritage. Finally, the programme aims to cultivate a cultural of cooperation, emerging from direct contact and sharing of cultures amongst people involved in the program, leading to thriving diplomatic relations in the region and worldwide.

C. PARTICIPANTS
Participants of the 2011 IACS include 50 awardees of regional organizations of the SWPD, PIF, as well as from Austria, Azerbaijan, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Suriname, The Czech Republic, The Netherlands, The United States, Turkey, and United Kingdom.

D. TIME
The non-degree arts and culture scholarship is offered for three months period of time, starting on 25 April to 29 July 2011.

E. LOCATION
The participants will be divided into five groups and assigned to the five arts centers (sanggar) located in Bandar Lampung, Lampung; Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java and Surabaya, East Java.

F. LIST OF COURSES
In Bandung, West Java, participants will learn Sundanese art and culture namely the production, maintenance and appreciation to angklung; karawitan, wayang golek, and traditional dance of Sunda. They will also learn Sundanese and Indonesian Language as a component of the culture.

The participants will learn Javanese art and culture such as the process of batik and its significance; karawitan; traditional Javanese dance; and Javanese language and culture in Solo and Surabaya.

In Bali, the participants will learn Balinese art and culture, namely Balinese dance and gamelan. Each art centre will also arrange special visit to several historic as well as renowned tourist destinations for participants.

In Bandar Lampung, Lampung, the participants will learn Sumateran art and culture such as selected Sumatera dance and traditional instruments. The center will also arrange extra-curricular activities, excursions and field study.

Prior to their residency at art centres, the participants will undertake 10 days of orientation in Jakarta and will learn issues such as the Aim and Objectives of the Scholarship; Introduction to Indonesian Culture; Information about Bandung, Solo, Surabaya, Denpasar and Bandar Lampung.

The scholarship covers:

Tuition fee (including extra-curricular activities);
A round trip economy class ticket;
Accommodation (board and lodging);
Health insurance;
Monthly allowance of Rp. 1.500.000,-.

Terms and Conditions:

Candidates should preferably be between the ages of 21 to 30 years-old with at least a high school diploma;
Candidates should possess high interest and talent in arts. Arts students or those with an academic history on Indonesian culture are encouraged to apply;
Bearing in mind the intensity of the program, candidates are highly advised to ensure prime physical conditions, particularly for female candidates to ensure that they do not conceive prior and during the program;
Candidates must complete the application form (attached) and submit it along with the followings:

3 (three) passport-sized photographs;
A photo-copy of passport with validity period at least two years;
A photo-copy of academic diploma;
A photo-copy of the latest valid health certification from a qualified medical practitioner. On the day of leaving the origin country, participants should equipped themselves with a valid health certification from a qualified medical practitioner;
A letter of recommendation;
A personal statement declaring the following:

the willingness to be subject to Indonesian laws and regulations during his/her stay in Indonesia;
the willingness to follow all the rules and regulations set up by the organizing committee and art centers;
the willingness to accept the facilities provided by the organizing committee and arts centers and stay at the designated accommodations;
not to work or be employed for financial benefits during the program;
the willingness to follow the travel arrangements arranged by the organizing committee to and from Indonesia;
the willingness to participate in all the program arranged by the organizing committee and art centers, unless, during the program, declared unfit by a qualified medical practitioner;
the willingness to leave Indonesia immediately after the closing ceremony, at a date determined by the organizing committee.

The programme will include Indonesian language lessons. A minimum skill in Bahasa Indonesia or English will be an advantage for candidates, but is not a main criterion for the programme.

The Camborne School of Mines Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded by a committee who meet twice a year; once at the end of March and once during October.

March Scholarship Committee meeting
In March the Committee provisionally award scholarships to the strongest applicants holding a conditional or unconditional offer from UCAS for one or more eligible undergraduate degree programmes. Provisional offers are made for the majority of scholarships at this meeting.

Decisions are based on your UCAS application and supplementary information provided on the Scholarship Application Form. Provisional scholarship offers are made to candidates with the strongest academic record, predicted/actual grades and overall potential. If successful, you will receive a provisional scholarship offer in early April before you have to confirm your firm (first choice) institution and programme with UCAS.

Scholarship offers are conditional on you selecting the associated degree programme as your firm choice with UCAS and meeting the terms of your UCAS offer.

Application deadline: March 2011

October Scholarship Committee meeting
In October the Committee review the provisional scholarship offers made in April, confirming which applicants successfully met the conditions of the provisional scholarship offer and subsequently registered on that degree programme.

Any remaining scholarships are then awarded to the strongest remaining applicants. These may be applicants who were originally considered in March but were unsuccessful, or students who applied after the deadline. Those who applied before the deadline will be automatically reconsidered in October.

If you apply for an eligible programme between March and September and are subsequently offered and take up a place, you should submit a scholarship application during the first week of term after you have registered.

Decisions are based on your UCAS application and supplementary information provided on the Scholarship Application Form, and based on actual rather than predicted grades. Offers will be made to eligible candidates with the strongest academic record and overall potential for each scholarship.

Successful candidates are notified immediately after the October meeting of the Scholarships Committee. You will receive the first instalment of your scholarship in the autumn term.

Please note :

The CSM Undergraduate Scholarships Committee reserves the right not to award all scholarships.
The decision of the Scholarships Committee is final and it will not enter into correspondence. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.
Applicants who receive a provisional scholarship offer in early April, but who do not subsequently select the specified degree programme as their firm UCAS choice and register/study on that programme will forfeit their scholarship.
If you do not meet the terms of our UCAS offer for the specified programme you will normally forfeit your scholarship.
Scholarship offers are for a particular degree programme. If you transfer to another programme, you may forfeit your scholarship.
Forfeited scholarships will be re-allocated at the October meeting of the Scholarships Committee.
Candidates who have applied for deferred entry will not be considered until the March preceding the programme start date.

The Fuji Xerox Setsutaro Kobayashi Memorial Fund Accepts an Application for the 28th Foreign Students Research Grant in 2011

1. Grant Objectives
Development of international understanding and cooperation is all the more important to achieve a peaceful and harmonious global society, which is the long-term goal of humanity in the 21st century.

Although Japan has dramatically elevated her position in the world in the decades following World War II, it is also true that Japan has not yet fully lived up to the role expected of her. In particular, Japan does not seem to have the best relations with her Asia-Pacific neighbors in terms of politics, economics and culture despite their geographic proximity and long history of cultural interchanges with Japan. In this respect, further mutual understanding and reliance on continued efforts to foster friendship through interchanges among nations have great significance in today's world.

In its Mission Statement, Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. asserts that it will contribute to the advancement of the global community by continuously fostering mutual trust and enriching diverse culture. Based on this precept and the above-mentioned perception of the current status of Japan, the research grant program was initiated to support young researchers from Asia-Pacific countries/regions who are studying in Japan. The grant is allocated from the Setsutaro Kobayashi Memorial Fund, which was established to commemorate the achievements of the late Setsutaro Kobayashi, who was the first president of Fuji Xerox.

Fuji Xerox hopes that the research grant program contributes to the promotion of mutual understanding of people and harmonious development of the nations or areas in the Asia-Pacific regions.

2. Qualifications for Grant Application
2.1 Research Field
Grants shall be conferred for individual research (not group research) in the field of Humanities (Cultural Science) or Social Sciences, with special emphasis on themes that help deepen the researcher's understanding and awareness of Japanese or Asian/Oceanian society and culture and enhance international interchanges among them in the future.

2.2 Qualifications for Applicants
Applicants shall meet all of the following requirements on the date of both the application deadline and grant subsidization.

Foreign students or researchers from an Asia-Pacific country/area listed below who are currently staying in Japan.

East Asia: Korea, China, Taiwan, Mongolia Southeast
Asia: Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos
South Asia: India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives
Oceania: Australia, New Zealand, Island countries in Oceanian region

Students or researchers who are presently enrolled in a doctorate program (not in a master program) of Japanese universities. Those who already received or will receive doctorate degrees before the issuance date of the grant are not allowed to apply.
Students or researchers who are recommended by their supervising professors or mentors.

3. Grant Particulars
The Kobayashi Fund will provide each grantee with a research grant to be used for expenses (transportation/accommodation for travel, purchase of reference books/archives, etc.) pertaining to the research activities in Japan and Asia-Pacific countries/regions.

3.1 Amount of grant
Maximum 1,200,000 yen per grantee will be available to approximately 40 grantees. An amount from 430,000 to 1,200,000 yen per grantee was provided to 41 grantees for the 2007 program. (Depending upon the results of the Grantee Screening Committee's assessment, the actual amount for some grantees could be less than the originally requested amount.

3.2 Duration of grant
The duration of the grant shall be for one year from the date of the grant.

3.3 Re-grant
Anyone who has received the grant before may apply again. Such applicants should describe the reason for the re-grant with the outline of the research previously granted. A re-grant is available for existing grantees or ex-grantees only once.

3.4 Responsibilities of grantee

The grantee shall conduct research according to the research schedule submitted. Within three months after the end of the grant period, the grantee shall submit a research report (approximately 30 pages in A4 size format) and a copy of the account book (summarized version is acceptable) to the fund office via the supervising professor.
Depending on the research contents, Fuji Xerox shall reserve the right to open the results of the research to the public and the right to request the grantee lecture on the research at a seminar arranged by Fuji Xerox.
In case the grantee has to reschedule the research or leave Japan before completion of the research or change his/her contact address or telephone number in Japan, such grantee shall promptly inform the fund office of the situation in writing.

3.5 Other support for grantee
The fund shall print research report(s) submitted by the grantee in accordance with the above 3.4 (1), and present 30 copies to the grantee. The fund will also donate those reports to the universities and research institutes in Japan and overseas. Some copies shall be sent to the grantee alumni members on their request.

3.6 Time of grant
The total amount of the grant shall be fully paid to the grantee via bank transfer in the end of July 2011.

4. Selection Method
4.1 Selection criteria
Selection shall focus on evaluation of the following three aspects:

Originality: While the research theme and method should be based on an applicant's original concept or unique idea, such method should be attainable.
Social value: The theme should have strong potential for promotion of mutual understanding among people and nations/regions in Japan and Asia-Pacific.
The results of the research shall be reflected in the thesis submitted for a doctorate and shall have strong potential for obtaining the doctoral degree in the near future.

4.2 Grantee selection method

The Grantee Screening Committee shall screen the applicants and nominate candidates, and the Fund Operational Committee shall make a final decision on selection by May 31, 2009.
Each applicant and supervising professor/mentor shall be notified of the results of the final decision by letter.
Selected applicants should attend the research grant guidance meeting and reception party that will take place in early July 2009.

The Putnam Fellowship for The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University

The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University invites applicants for research fellowships in plant science. Putnam Fellowships offer excellent opportunities for advanced research and study using the Arboretum’s living collections of trees and shrubs. Scientists and horticulturists with a PhD and who have identified a research project that would utilize the Arboretum’s living collections are encouraged to apply.

Putnam Fellows conduct basic and applied research in the plant sciences. The goal of the program is to facilitate the research use of the Arboretum’s living collections, thereby stimulating their use within the larger scientific community. The research topics of past Putnam Fellows have included taxonomy and systematics, physiological ecology, propagation, plant-insect and/or -pathogen interactions, and collections management. The Putnam Fellowship Program has attracted a diverse array of scholars, and many have gone on to be leaders in academia and public horticulture.

The Arnold Arboretum provides exceptional resources for woody plant research. The living collections, numbering some 15,000 plants, are distinguished as one of the most thoroughly documented collections of temperate woody plants in the world. Taxonomic diversity and breadth within the collection are noteworthy, and the floras of China, Japan, and Korea are particularly well represented. The Harvard Botanical Library contains 250,000 volumes, while the Harvard University Herbaria holds over 5,000,000 specimens.

Eligibility
Applications are sought from early- and mid-career individuals with a PhD in plant science, plant ecology, horticulture or related discipline. Applicants should be well positioned to conduct original, independent research and to publish their findings in peer-reviewed publications. Applicants are expected to have the ability to write and converse fluently in English.

Fellowship Details
The Putnam Fellowship award provides stipends of up to $40,000 per year, depending on professional status, need, and duration of the fellowship. In addition, modest support is available for research and travel costs. Putnam Fellows are employees of Harvard University during their tenure and are eligible for health insurance benefits.

Putnam Fellows are expected to publish the results of their research in professional or academic journals and present their work at professional meetings and workshops.

Putnam Fellows are also expected to engage fully in the professional activities of the Arnold Arboretum and be in full-time residence during their tenure. While the primary work of Putnam Fellows is conducting original independent research that utilizes the living collections of the Arboretum, Putnam Fellows are also expected to work collaboratively with the staff of the Arboretum on other institutional efforts. Participation as an instructor for Arnold Arboretum education programs is encouraged, as is writing for Arnoldia, the Arboretum’s quarterly magazine.

The fellowship is typically awarded for 1 year, with an option for a second year renewal upon review. Shorter appointments, of no less than 3 months, are also possible. Putnam Fellows must initiate their term at the Arboretum within 12 months of notification.

Application Process
Fellowships are awarded through a competitive review process. To be considered for a fellowship, applicants should submit a concise proposal in PDF format that includes the following:

Cover letter. The cover letter should clearly state (i) the applicant’s interest in the program; (ii) the length of the term desired by the applicant; and (iii) the applicant’s contact information.
Research Statement. The statement should be no longer than 4 pages, single-spaced, and should describe the research project the applicant proposes to conduct as a Putnam Fellow. The statement should describe (i) the nature and scope of the proposed research project; (ii) the approach and methods to be employed; (iii) how the living collections of the Arnold Arboretum would be utilized; (iv) all laboratory and equipment requirements; and (v) how the project will advance knowledge about the plant kingdom.
Research Budget. A modest level of funding is available for research and travel costs. Applicants should submit a simple, 1-page budget that itemizes the research and travel costs associated with the proposed project.
Curriculum vitae.
Three letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should clearly indicate the name, title, mailing address, phone, and email address of the person providing the recommendation. Letters may be sent under separate cover, provided they meet the deadline.
Electronic applications are strongly encouraged. All four components should be combined, in the order listed, in a single PDF document and sent to Michael Dosmann, Curator of the Living Collections, at email.

The applicant’s research proposal will be assessed with regard to the nature and scope of the work, the approach and methods to be employed, the feasibility of the proposed effort with respect to the term of the fellowship, and how it would advance knowledge about the plant kingdom.
The relevance of the research with respect to the living collections of the Arnold Arboretum. The applicant’s research proposal will also be assessed with respect to how the living collections of the Arboretum would be utilized, and how the project fits into ongoing Arboretum programs.

Scholarship Selection Process & Assessment Criteria:
Up to 5 finalists will be selected from each round to be interviewed. The interview will be conducted on-line by video link, or if this is not available, through a teleconference.

Scholarship Application (including academic results, CV and short answer responses). 50%

Following the interview, the winners will be selected as those most likely to excel in hotel management. Scholarship winners will be notified within two weeks.

Conditions of Entry:
Students who meet the scholarship eligibility criteria and ICHM entry requirements can apply for a scholarship. Students who have already applied and been accepted by ICHM for these intakes may also apply by completing the Scholarship Application form.

ICHM reserves the right to reduce the value of scholarships if there are less than ten applicants in either round.

The tuition fees for international students starting in 2011 are A$23,050. In addition there is a one-time New Student Fee of A$1,500. The 2011 cost for Accommodation & Meals at ICHM is A$8,190, payable during on-campus semesters and subject to availability. These scholarships can only be applied to the tuition fees. Students commencing in the 2012 intakes are required to pay the listed fess at that time.

The A$50 Scholarship Application Fee is non-refundable, this applies to successful and unsuccessful applicants. It is not considered as part of the New Student Fee or Course Fees.

The scholarship amount will be credited against the final fee payment each year.

Students who are offered and accept a scholarship or bursary amount are ineligible to apply for subsequent scholarship rounds. Students who do not accept or receive any amount at all, are able to apply to future scholarship rounds, as long as they meet all other entry requirements.

The Selection Panel may decide to increase the number of scholarship winners by reducing the scholarship amount.

Payment of the scholarship amount on behalf of the student for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of the course will be dependent upon satisfactory academic results and industry placement performance as determined by the ICHM Academic Board.

The awarding of the Scholarship payment each year depends on the student paying the balance of the student fees by the due date as set out in the Application Form contained in the prospectus. Students failing to pay the balance of fees by the due date will forfeit the right to their scholarship.

The Scholarships are open to new first year students only. Students currently studying at ICHM are ineligible.

Scholarship students failing to comply with the ICHM rules and regulations in relation to personal and ethical behaviour will forfeit their entitlement to the scholarship.

The Josephine de Karman Fellowship Trust was established in 1954 by the late Dr. Theodore von Karman, world renowned aeronautics expert and teacher and first director of the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, in memory of his sister, Josephine, who died in 1951. The purpose of this fellowship program is to recognize and assist students whose scholastic achievements reflect professor von Karman`s high standards.

2011-2012 FELLOWSHIP GUIDELINES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Applications are available at www.dekarman.org. If you wish to receive an application in the mail, submit your request via the website or send your request to P.O. Box 3389, San Dimas, CA 91773.

Complete applications, including official transcripts of applicant`s graduate and undergraduate studies at institutions in the United States and and two letters of recommendation, must be received by the fellowship committee IN ONE PACKAGE postmarked no later than midnight, January 31, 2011. Late applications will not be considered.

Announcement of awards will be made approximately April 15, 2011.

A minimum of ten (10) fellowships, $22,000 for graduate students and $14,000 for undergraduate students, will be awarded for the regular academic year (fall and spring semesters or the equivalent where the quarterly system prevails), paid through the fellowship office of the university in which the recipient is enrolled for study in the United States. Study must be carried out only in the and all funds must be expended only within this country.

The fellowship is for one academic year and may not be renewed or postponed. DeKarman fellowships are open to students in any discipline, including international students, who are currently enrolled in a university or college located within the United States. Only candidates for the PhD who will defend their dissertations by June 2012 and undergraduates entering their senior year (will receive bachelors degree in June 2012) are eligible for consideration. Postdoctoral and masters degree students are not eligible for consideration. Special consideration will be given to applicants in the Humanities.

Potential applicants should note that the competition for DeKarman fellowships is extreme. For the 2010-2011 cycle, the committee reviewed 462 applications and awarded 10 fellowships. To be competitive, graduate applicants should have outstanding letters of recommendation, significant publications, and have completed several chapters of the dissertation at the time of application. Undergraduate applicants should have exceptional recommendations and grades plus a compelling record of original research or scholarship. Although the competition is open to students from any university or college, the vast majority of awards go to students at top-tier schools.

Additional Information of Interest to Applicants:

Students who are not citizens of the may apply for a Josephine de Karman Fellowship if they are already enrolled in a university located in the United States and if they will be in the by the July preceding the fall semester of the academic year for which they have enrolled.
The fellowships will be paid directly through the fellowship office of the university in which the successful candidate is enrolled for study in the .United States. One half will be paid in September and one half the following February. NO UNIVERSITY OVERHEAD MAY BE APPLIED TO THE FELLOWSHIP AWARD. UNIVERSITY FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS VIEWED AS SEPARATE FROM DE KARMAN FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT. THE FELLOWSHIP IS FOR MERIT, BASED ON A NATIONAL COMPETITION. The names, universities, and departments (and dissertation titles of PhD candidates) of Josephine de Karman Fellowship awardees may be published on the Dekarman.org website.
By the end of December following completion of their fellowship year, awardees are required to submit a one to two page report on their achievements as a result of having held a Josephine de Karman Fellowship. The Institute for Mathematical Stochastic at the Georg-August-University
Göttingen is offering a full-time PhD position (salary is based on the German TV-L system, level 13) within the DFG-funded project of German-Swiss Research Group "Statistical Regularisation and Qualitative Constraints".

The position within the sub-project B5 "Partial least squares for serially dependent data" starts on April 1st, 2011 - subject to final approval by the DFG - and will be available for three years.

The project deals with the asymptotic properties of partial least squares method and its application to protein dynamics modelling in co-operation with the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. Partial least squares is a statistical regularisation method that is closely related to particular numerical mathematics techniques. Therefore, successful candidates should have a strong background in mathematical statistics and/or numerical
mathematics.

A new scholarship for international students has been established at Chalmers University of Technology. Ericsson AB will fully support the tuition fee for two international students at the master's programme Communication Engineering for the autumn 2011 intake.
“We are very happy that Ericsson wants to support the programme with scholarships. Our education in communication engineering is world class and the fact that Ericsson will provide its support confirms this”, says Gunilla Walther, Department of Signals and systems.

“We have a very good experience with graduates from this programme”, says Dag Jungenfelt, Head of Product Development Unit Microwave Networks at Ericsson. “To ensure that we can continue to meet the future needs in knowledge and skills, we are proud to be part of the establishment of this scholarship.”

From autumn 2011, students with citizenship in a country outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland will be required to pay tuition fees for Swedish Higher Education. At Chalmers the fees are set to SEK 140 000/year for most educations, and to 190 000/year for educations within the field of architecture.

The students that wish to study in Sweden can apply for several scholarships. At Chalmers, some of the scholarships are funded directly by Chalmers and others are provided by the Swedish Institute.

Science Po - The Emile Boutmy Scholarship France

Sciences Po created the Emile Boutmy scholarship after the founder of Sciences Po (1871) in order to attract the very best international students from outside of the European Union. The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is awarded to top students whose profiles match the admissions priorities of Sciences Po and individual course requirements.

The Financial Support Office administers a variety of scholarships and award schemes. Altogether 1M€ was awarded to non-european students in 2009 out of a total of 2.1M€.

Eligibility requirements
Eligible students are those from a non-European Union state, whose household does not file taxes within the European Union, and who have been admitted to the Undergraduate or Master's programme.

Students who are not eligible are:

Swiss and Norwegian applicants, since they may be entitled to CROUS scholarships
Candidates who have dual citizenship, including from a European Union state
Candidates from Quebec (since they may take advantage of sliding scale fees same as European applicants)
Dual-degree candidates
Third-year Ph.D. programme students (thesis)
MPA candidates, since they may apply for the MPA scholarship
The Emile Boutmy scholarship may be supplemented with various scholarships offered by the French government.

This scholarship is awarded based on factors of excellence and according to the type of profile sought for this programme. Social criteria are also taken into account.

This scholarship is not automatically awarded. A request for it must be made in the section designated for the purpose on the application form.

Undergraduate Programme

Amount and length of the scholarship
The Emile Boutmy programme can take several different forms for students on the undergraduate programme. The length of the scholarship is always dependent on scholarship recipients' academic results; they must be ranked within the top half of students within their year group.

A tuition grant of 7300€ per year for the three years of the undergraduate programme, in addition to a grant to cover part of the cost of living of €5000 per year. Scholarship recipients will forfeit their right to the grant to cover living costs if their academic results are not with the top 50% of students within their year group at the end of the first year*.

If the scholarship recipient is within the top 10% of his year group at the end of the first year**, he/she is eligible for a tuition fees grant of €6000 per year (equivalent to an exemption of approximately 70% of tuition fees) as well as for a grant of €5000 to cover living costs for the second year of study. This comes in addition to the tuition fees grant. Only students having requested this grant will be considered.

During the year abroad (third year of the undergraduate programme):

Scholarship recipients who are among the top 50% of students in their year group at the end of their second year will retain their tuition fee grant during their year abroad.

For those students awarded a grant to cover living costs in their second year, a grant to cover the costs of the stay abroad will be provided if deemed necessary and if the destination justifies.

PhD Scholarships in Biomechanics/Biorobotics EU-FP7 Program at Bielefeld University Germany

A PhD scholarship in Biomechanics/Biorobotics has been announced under the EU-FP7 program at Bielefeld University, Germany.

In the EU-funded FP7-Project EMICAB (Embodied Motion Intelligence for Cognitive, Autonomous Robots), the University of Bielefeld (Germany) invites applications for a part-time position as research assistant (PhD student) for the duration of three years. The positions are remunerated 50% of E13 (according to TV-L West, German public service). The salary scale typically ranges between 19200 and 22400 Eur p.a., depending on work experience.

The positions on offer are embedded into an excellent interdisciplinary environment with intensive contacts to various facilities and workgroups of Bielefeld University. In particular, this includes the Center of Excellence in Cognitive Interaction Technology, CITEC. The EU-project (www.emicab.eu) as a whole is formed by the Biomechatronics lab and the Neuroethology lab of Bielefeld University (coordinator), a Systems Engineering lab at the University of Catania, Italy, a Sensor Technology lab at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, and a Neurogenetics lab at the University of Mainz, Germany.

Goal of the EMICAB-project is the abstraction of neuro-ethological and neuro-genetic research results in the context of autonomous walking movements to generate artificial neural network models for intelligent behaviour. In parallel, a novel six-legged walking robot is being assembled and – within the project – expanded by rich body sensorisation and additional actuation.

THE POSITION is in the area of Neuroethology/Biomechanics with a relation to Biorobotics. The successful candidate should hold a master or diploma degree, preferably in biology or neuroscience. Advanced experimental and theoretical skills in Neurobiology (sensorimotor systems) and/or Biomechanics (whole-body kinematics, force measurements) are advantageous as well as sound experience in the analysis of multi-dimensional data. Candidates with a background in a related area within the computer sciences (e.g. bio-inspired robotics) are also encouraged to apply. Senior Clinical Training Scholarships at University of Cambridge

Overview
These Scholarships provide an outstanding opportunity to study for a postgraduate qualification. One Scholarship is available from 1 April 2011 and one from 1 July 2011. The Scholars will be trained in all aspects of small animal surgery, including soft tissue and orthopaedics. The training programme is approved by the European College of Veterinary Surgery, and the Department is an Approved Centre for the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (orthopaedics).

The Scholarships are for one year in the first instance, renewable for periods of one year up to a total of three years. They are subject to an initial monitoring period of six months, and to review on an annual basis.

The Scholars will be required to register for a Certificate and/or Diploma in the appropriate field. The training programme requires participation in the Department`s clinical service, including the out-of-hours rota, in addition to small-group teaching of veterinary students.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD £ 20,970 Year one

Applicants must be a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or hold a veterinary degree qualifying them for membership. Completion of an ECVS recognised internship or a minimum of two years` experience in small animal practice is essential.

PhD Scholarship in Psychology at the Department of Psychology Uppsala University

Position
As PhD student in developmental psychology. The project that is the financial basis for the position concerns the relation between aggression and cognitive control functions (so called executive functions) in children, and how these factors longitudinally are related to peer relations.

Qualifications
The applicant must have a basic university degree with psychology as a major subject.

Specific Qualifications
Experience of performing testing and working with children, as well as shown administrative independence are considered as additional qualifications. Good knowledge in Swedish and English is required.

Selection
The selection will be based on an assessment of the applicant’s aptitude for successful completion of graduate studies, made by the professors at the department. The bases for this judgment are the previously written research thesis, interviews (if deemed necessary), and finally, the plan for a research project.

Financing
These positions are financed through a combination of grants and department resources. The successful applicant will be supported the first year with a doctoral grant and the remaining three years by a doctoral studentship.

PhD student position in Medical Science - Clinical Pharmacology

Background
Inside solid tumors the individual cells often grow in close vicinity to each other and areas with mild to severe oxygen deficit, hypoxia, is formed within the tumor. The hypoxic tumor cells are likely to be less sensitive against traditional treatment options, e.g. several studies have demonstrated hypoxia-related resistance against radiotherapy. Most probably this is also true for several chemotherapeutic treatments.

Aim
To investigate the activity of different anticancer drugs on tumor cells cultivated in spheroids, i.e. small micro-tumors (0.1-1 mm) with a hypoxic core tumor cells cultivated under hypoxic conditions in comparison to normoxic conditions, with special attention to drugs with potentially increased hypoxic activity and their mechanisms.

Work plan
To generate hypoxic growth environment to the cells the complete experiments, from addition of drug until end of incubation, will be performed in a hypoxic chamber. The cell’s sensitivity towards a panel of standard chemotherapeutic agents will be analyzed with the fluorometric microculture cytotoxicity assay (FMCA), which measures cell viability on the basis of fluorescein diacetate hydrolysis in cells with intact plasma membranes. The mechanistic investigation will be performed using gene expression analysis and specific kits for molecular events. Isolated mRNA from hypoxic vs normoxic cancer cells, with or without drug exposure, will be analyzed with Affymetrix technique using the Uppsala Array Platform. Cancer cells in spheroids will be cultivated using commercially available tools, e.g. microtiter plates from Scivax.

Importance
Investigations indicate that the different micro-environment in tumors, including hypoxia, can be related to resistance against both radiation and chemotherapy, and that the conditions provide cellular development against more malignant phenotypes. Each of these factors provide a common clinical problem. This project aims to a mechanistic approach to the problem, find connections and to optimize the combination of drugs especially selected to exert effects in a hypoxic environment.

Competence of the applicant
The applicant should have an academic degree e.g. MSc Pharm, or MSc molecular Biology, or similar. Experience from cell cultivation and working under aseptic condition are considered an additional qualification.

Previous experience in experimental research is a merit. Skills in oral and written english is necessary.

The Barcelona GSE has a rolling admission policy so applications are accepted throughout the year. When the total number of places in a program is covered, no more applications will be reviewed for that program. (For example, last year the Economics program closed applications on May 15). Therefore all candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible to avoide getting closed out.

Due to visa processing time constraints, it is highly recommended that non-EU citizens submit completed applications by July 15, 2011.
