The course begins in January. To graduate, the MPM candidate is required to pass five modules at NUS, and four electives at the John F Kennedy School of Government (KSG) at Harvard University. In addition, he or she is expected to successfully complete an attachment programme, and present a paper upon the completion of his or her attachment at the Public Management Seminar Series.&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Executive Committee for Graduate Studies may require a candidate to withdraw from the course of study for the degree of Master in Public Management if, in the Committee’s opinion, the candidate’s progress has not reached a satisfactory level of proficiency.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To graduate with the MPM, a candidate must have obtained an average of B- (minimum Cumulative Average Point of 3.0) at the end of the course of study. In the case of a candidate who has completed more than the stipulated number of modules required, the calculation of the average will be based on all the modules sat for. A candidate who fails a core module must retake and pass an examination in that core module in a subsequent semester. A candidate who fails an elective module may, subject to approval of the School, retake the module or choose an alternative module and pass the examination in the module in a subsequent semester. Conditions of the call&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Rovira i Virgili University is announcing a competitive call for grants to study on a university master’s degree programme during the academic year 2011–2012. These grants are aimed at new international students.&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.1 Aim&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The present call aims to facilitate and increase the participation of new international students who fulfil the entry requirements of the URV university master’s degrees.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the present call 2011-2012, all the university master’s degrees will have at least one student awarded with a grant. Those interuniversity master’s degrees whose registration procedure is not organized by the URV are expressly excluded.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The number of grants awarded can be increased by means of any extra resources proposed by the organs responsible for organizing the master’s degree, as long as they use the specific application form.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.2. Characteristics of the grant&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The grants consist of the whole amount of the registration of the first academic year (60 ECTS credits, including registered and recognized, fees and insurance) and a study bursary of 4.000€.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the case of on-line masters degrees, the grant only will consist of the whole amount of the registration fees of the first academic year. In the case of masters’ degrees of 120 ECTS credits, if 60 ECTS credits of the first year are recognized due to previous formation, the grant will involve the whole amount of the second year registration (60 ECTS credits). The student should pay the fees of recognition of the first year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Postgraduate and Doctoral School will be responsible for transferring the study bursary to the beneficiary student, by means of the Economic Resources Service. In addition, it will be responsible for paying the registration and tuition fees to the Academic Management Service, and for paying the insurance premium’to the insurance company.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The students will receive the amount of 4.000€ in three payments:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;    First payment: As soon as the students will enrol the university, they will be paid an advance sum of 600€ so that they can cover the first expenses they may have. To receive this advance sum, however, they must have completed the registration procedure.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;    Second payment: During the two following months after registration to the master, the sum of 2.000€ will be transferred directly into the current accounts of the beneficiaries.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;    Third payment: During the last week of February 2012, the beneficiaries will be paid the outstanding sum of 1.400€.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Under no circumstances will the registration or tuition fees be transferred to the students. The Postgraduate and Doctoral School will transfer this amount directly to the Academic Management Service.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Likewise, the Postgraduate and Doctoral School will also pay the insurance premium for these students, which will cover the costs of health care, accidents and repatriation during the period they are beneficiaries of the grant.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.3. Requirements&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;a) General&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Students must not be the beneficiaries of other incompatible grants or bursaries (see section 1.9 of the present call). Should they be awarded another grant or bursary of the same characteristics, they will have to explicitly renounce one of them and return the amount they have already received.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;b) Specific&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Beneficiaries must be registered for at least 60 ECTS credits of a URV university master’s degree. This figure includes the number of recognized credits.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Beneficiaries must have been favourably evaluated by the specially appointed Committee and their coefficient must be within the total number of grants to be awarded.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;   International students must not have Spanish residence.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Those beneficiaries who are registered in master’s degrees with a virtual component must spend at least two months in the URV.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.4. The committee will be chaired by the coordinator of each master’s degree. This committee will raise the proposal of grant awards to the Vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning and indicate the order of priority, so that all grants can be awarded should there be any withdrawals. Applications will be appraised using the following criteria:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Academic transcript (maximum 5 points).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Curriculum Vitae (previous training, languages, temporary stays in other countries, mobility, professional experience) (maximum 3 points).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;   Undergraduate studies in another university (maximum 2 points).&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;To guarantee efficiency, the Selection Committee of each master’s degree must meet between 10–20 May 2011.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the basis of the proposals made by the various Selection Committees, the Vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning shall convene the Standing Recruitment Committee, which will make the definitive award of the grants and indicate the order of priority. This Committee will consist of five members, representing five different scientific areas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the event that some awards are not assigned, the Standing Recruitment Committee can redistribute them among the other master’s degrees, with the exception of those that are funded by the organs responsible for university master’s degrees. In this case, the vacancies will be redistributed under decision of the organ responsible for the master degree.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1.7 Resolution of the call&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Once the process has been completed, the Vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning will publish the definitive list of grants awarded. BACKGROUND&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship has been conducted since 2003 and was initially offered to and participated by member countries of the South West Pacific Dialogue (SwPD); Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and the host Indonesia.&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bearing in mind the significance and advantages obtained from the program, the offer was expanded over the years to include member countries of ASEAN, ASEAN+3, and PIF, as well as India and South Africa. In 2008, Indonesia welcomed the participation of Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Since 2009, Austria has joined the program and in 2010 the Government of Indonesia has given the opportunity for participants from France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and Suriname. This year, Indonesia will invite participant from Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Turkey to join the program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Due to the limited space and the vast amount of interest in the program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with Indonesian embassies and consulates overseas, hold a series of selection process. Taken into considerations are, among others, the participants’ background, gender and regional representation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In order to deepen the participants’ understanding of Indonesian arts and culture, and to enhance their skills for the final performance, participants will be divided and assigned by the organising committee to different arts centers for the duration of approximately two and a half month. The arts centers are located in Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Bandar Lampung, Lampung.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Participants will live within or around the arts centers, allowing for the chance to experience the local heritage and interact with the local community. Synergy between theory and practices shared inside and outside the art centers would undoubtedly become the driving force for shaping international cultures and norms, and will eventually strengthen regional as well as global understanding and cooperation at a people-to-people level. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;B. OBJECTIVE&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The program serves to demonstrate Indonesia’s commitment in advancing the social culture cooperation of various countries in the world. The program also has an objective to encourage better understanding amongst participants Indonesia’s immensely diverse art and cultural heritage. Finally, the programme aims to cultivate a cultural of cooperation, emerging from direct contact and sharing of cultures amongst people involved in the program, leading to thriving diplomatic relations in the region and worldwide.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;C. PARTICIPANTS&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Participants of the 2011 IACS include 50 awardees of regional organizations of the SWPD, PIF, as well as from Austria, Azerbaijan, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Suriname, The Czech Republic, The Netherlands, The United States, Turkey, and United Kingdom.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;D. TIME&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The non-degree arts and culture scholarship is offered for three months period of time, starting on 25 April to 29 July 2011.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;E. LOCATION&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The participants will be divided into five groups and assigned to the five arts centers (sanggar) located in Bandar Lampung, Lampung; Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Solo, Central Java and Surabaya, East Java.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;F. LIST OF COURSES&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In Bandung, West Java, participants will learn Sundanese art and culture namely the production, maintenance and appreciation to angklung; karawitan, wayang golek, and traditional dance of Sunda.  They will also learn Sundanese and Indonesian Language as a component of the culture.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The participants will learn Javanese art and culture such as the process of batik and its significance; karawitan; traditional Javanese dance; and Javanese language and culture in Solo and Surabaya.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In Bali, the participants will learn Balinese art and culture, namely Balinese dance and gamelan.  Each art centre will also arrange special visit to several historic as well as renowned tourist destinations for participants.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In Bandar Lampung, Lampung, the participants will learn Sumateran art and culture such as selected Sumatera dance and traditional instruments. Grant Objectives&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Development of international understanding and cooperation is all the more important to achieve a peaceful and harmonious global society, which is the long-term goal of humanity in the 21st century.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Although Japan has dramatically elevated her position in the world in the decades following World War II, it is also true that Japan has not yet fully lived up to the role expected of her. &lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;In particular, Japan does not seem to have the best relations with her Asia-Pacific neighbors in terms of politics, economics and culture despite their geographic proximity and long history of cultural interchanges with Japan. Grant Particulars&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Kobayashi Fund will provide each grantee with a research grant to be used for expenses (transportation/accommodation for travel, purchase of reference books/archives, etc.) pertaining to the research activities in Japan and Asia-Pacific countries/regions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.1 Amount of grant&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Maximum 1,200,000 yen per grantee will be available to approximately 40 grantees. An amount from 430,000 to 1,200,000 yen per grantee was provided to 41 grantees for the 2007 program. (Depending upon the results of the Grantee Screening Committee's assessment, the actual amount for some grantees could be less than the originally requested amount.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.2 Duration of grant&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The duration of the grant shall be for one year from the date of the grant.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.3 Re-grant&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyone who has received the grant before may apply again. Such applicants should describe the reason for the re-grant with the outline of the research previously granted. A re-grant is available for existing grantees or ex-grantees only once.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.4 Responsibilities of grantee&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;The grantee shall conduct research according to the research schedule submitted. Within three months after the end of the grant period, the grantee shall submit a research report (approximately 30 pages in A4 size format) and a copy of the account book (summarized version is acceptable) to the fund office via the supervising professor.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Depending on the research contents, Fuji Xerox shall reserve the right to open the results of the research to the public and the right to request the grantee lecture on the research at a seminar arranged by Fuji Xerox.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;In case the grantee has to reschedule the research or leave Japan before completion of the research or change his/her contact address or telephone number in Japan, such grantee shall promptly inform the fund office of the situation in writing.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.5 Other support for grantee&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The fund shall print research report(s) submitted by the grantee in accordance with the above 3.4 (1), and present 30 copies to the grantee. The fund will also donate those reports to the universities and research institutes in Japan and overseas. Some copies shall be sent to the grantee alumni members on their request.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.6 Time of grant&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The total amount of the grant shall be fully paid to the grantee via bank transfer in the end of July 2011.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;4. Selection Method&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;4.1 Selection criteria&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Selection shall focus on evaluation of the following three aspects:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Originality: While the research theme and method should be based on an applicant's original concept or unique idea, such method should be attainable.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Social value: The theme should have strong potential for promotion of mutual understanding among people and nations/regions in Japan and Asia-Pacific.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;The results of the research shall be reflected in the thesis submitted for a doctorate and shall have strong potential for obtaining the doctoral degree in the near future.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;4.2 Grantee selection method&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;The Grantee Screening Committee shall screen the applicants and nominate candidates, and the Fund Operational Committee shall make a final decision on selection by May 31, 2009.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Each applicant and supervising professor/mentor shall be notified of the results of the final decision by letter.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Selected applicants should attend the research grant guidance meeting and reception party that will take place in early July 2009.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;5. Putnam Fellowships offer excellent opportunities for advanced research and study using the Arboretum’s living collections of trees and shrubs. Scientists and horticulturists with a PhD and who have identified a research project that would utilize the Arboretum’s living collections are encouraged to apply.&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Putnam Fellows conduct basic and applied research in the plant sciences. The goal of the program is to facilitate the research use of the Arboretum’s living collections, thereby stimulating their use within the larger scientific community. The research topics of past Putnam Fellows have included taxonomy and systematics, physiological ecology, propagation, plant-insect and/or -pathogen interactions, and collections management. The Putnam Fellowship Program has attracted a diverse array of scholars, and many have gone on to be leaders in academia and public horticulture.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Arnold Arboretum provides exceptional resources for woody plant research. The living collections, numbering some 15,000 plants, are distinguished as one of the most thoroughly documented collections of temperate woody plants in the world. Taxonomic diversity and breadth within the collection are noteworthy, and the floras of China, Japan, and Korea are particularly well represented. The Harvard Botanical Library contains 250,000 volumes, while the Harvard University Herbaria holds over 5,000,000 specimens.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Eligibility&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Applications are sought from early- and mid-career individuals with a PhD in plant science, plant ecology, horticulture or related discipline. Applicants should be well positioned to conduct original, independent research and to publish their findings in peer-reviewed publications. Applicants are expected to have the ability to write and converse fluently in English.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Fellowship Details&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Putnam Fellowship award provides stipends of up to $40,000 per year, depending on professional status, need, and duration of the fellowship. Participation as an instructor for Arnold Arboretum education programs is encouraged, as is writing for Arnoldia, the Arboretum’s quarterly magazine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The fellowship is typically awarded for 1 year, with an option for a second year renewal upon review. Shorter appointments, of no less than 3 months, are also possible. Putnam Fellows must initiate their term at the Arboretum within 12 months of notification.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Application Process&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fellowships are awarded through a competitive review process. The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is awarded to top students whose profiles match the admissions priorities of Sciences Po and individual course requirements. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Financial Support Office administers a variety of scholarships and award schemes. The positions are remunerated 50% of E13 (according to TV-L West, German public service). The salary scale typically ranges between 19200 and 22400 Eur p.a., depending on work experience.&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The positions on offer are embedded into an excellent interdisciplinary environment with intensive contacts to various facilities and workgroups of Bielefeld University. In particular, this includes the Center of Excellence in Cognitive Interaction Technology, CITEC. The EU-project (www.emicab.eu) as a whole is formed by the Biomechatronics lab and the Neuroethology lab of Bielefeld University (coordinator), a Systems Engineering lab at the University of Catania, Italy, a Sensor Technology lab at the University of Southern Denmark in Sønderborg, and a Neurogenetics lab at the University of Mainz, Germany.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Goal of the EMICAB-project is the abstraction of neuro-ethological and neuro-genetic research results in the context of autonomous walking movements to generate artificial neural network models for intelligent behaviour. In parallel, a novel six-legged walking robot is being assembled and – within the project – expanded by rich body sensorisation and additional actuation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;THE POSITION is in the area of Neuroethology/Biomechanics with a relation to Biorobotics. The successful candidate should hold a master or diploma degree, preferably in biology or neuroscience. Advanced experimental and theoretical skills in Neurobiology (sensorimotor systems) and/or Biomechanics (whole-body kinematics, force measurements) are advantageous as well as sound experience in the analysis of multi-dimensional data. Candidates with a background in a related area within the computer sciences (e.g. bio-inspired robotics) are also encouraged to apply. Starting date: March 01, 2011.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Background&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Inside solid tumors the individual cells often grow in close vicinity to each other and areas with mild to severe oxygen deficit, hypoxia, is formed within the tumor. &lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;The hypoxic tumor cells are likely to be less sensitive against traditional treatment options, e.g. several studies have demonstrated hypoxia-related resistance against radiotherapy. Most probably this is also true for several chemotherapeutic treatments.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Aim&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To investigate the activity of different anticancer drugs on tumor cells cultivated in spheroids, i.e. small micro-tumors (0.1-1 mm) with a hypoxic core tumor cells cultivated under hypoxic conditions in comparison to normoxic conditions, with special attention to drugs with potentially increased hypoxic activity and their mechanisms.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Work plan&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To generate hypoxic growth environment to the cells the complete experiments, from addition of drug until end of incubation, will be performed in a hypoxic chamber. The cell’s sensitivity towards a panel of standard chemotherapeutic agents will be analyzed with the fluorometric microculture cytotoxicity assay (FMCA), which measures cell viability on the basis of fluorescein diacetate hydrolysis in cells with intact plasma membranes. The mechanistic investigation will be performed using gene expression analysis and specific kits for molecular events. Isolated mRNA from hypoxic vs normoxic cancer cells, with or without drug exposure, will be analyzed with Affymetrix technique using the Uppsala Array Platform. Cancer cells in spheroids will be cultivated using commercially available tools, e.g. microtiter plates from Scivax.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Importance&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Investigations indicate that the different micro-environment in tumors, including hypoxia, can be related to resistance against both radiation and chemotherapy, and that the conditions provide cellular development against more malignant phenotypes. Each of these factors provide a common clinical problem. This project aims to a mechanistic approach to the problem, find connections and to optimize the combination of drugs especially selected to exert effects in a hypoxic environment. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Competence of the applicant&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The applicant should have an academic degree e.g. MSc Pharm, or MSc molecular Biology, or similar.
